The Sumter County School District is located in Sumter County, Georgia, the home of the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter. The District serves over 3,700 students from Americus, Leslie, Desoto and Plains. IGNITE College and Career Academy, through the Sumter County school system, opened during the 2021/2022 school season. In addition to its educational requirements, the Academy teaches students career skills necessary to work in a career or attain a college pathway.
