Created by a constitutional amendment in the State of Georgia in 1962, the Authority was established to enhance the economic environment of Sumter County through growth of the private sector. The Authority actively works with existing and prospective businesses considering Sumter as their location for growing and creating jobs.
The Authority maintains the Ted Baldwin Business and Technology Park, a contact center, a speculative building, and manufacturing facilities. Equipped with incentives for growth and over 200 acres of developable land, the Authority is readily available to partner with you in expanding your business.

Appointed Sumter County citizens lead the Sumter County Development Authority. The Sumter County Board of Commissioners appoints two members, the city of Americus appoints two members, and both jointly appoint one member. Members serve five-year terms and are tasked with providing leadership, direction, and industry knowledge to create growth opportunities in Sumter County. An Executive Director staffs the Authority.
